We recommend this book to undergraduate dental students who, when starting out, know nothing at all about dental materials. Unlike some other dental material books, which put students ‘off’, this book is quite ‘user friendly’ and gives young dental students confidence in their first or second year of study.

From a clinical point of view this book gives a clear understanding of dental materials with an adequate introduction of both physics and chemistry. The focus is on heavily on practical clinical issues rather than unnecessary clinical theory. The book is easy to read and the division of the book into three parts allows pleasant step-by-step learning. There are quite a few books on dental materials but some of them are too hard and quite extensive. I recommend this to my UGs, PG and PhD students.

There are several books on the market but this one is exceptionally good in its clear handling of the topics, simplicity in its presentation, clarity of its objectives and thoroughness of its information. One further advantage is the chapter on endodontic materials which I find absent in the other books. Also, the presentation of ceramic materials is very interesting and allows the reader to differentiate between different ceramics, not only from their mechanical or structural behaviors but also from their clinical use. I would strongly recommend this book to my students as well as dental practitioners who seek to stay up-to-date in their knowledge.
